On November 23, 2008, Marilyn Levin and Cyndi Smasal met with Miriam Hawley, Lynne Twist and Kay Sandberg the day after the Second Annual Global Sufficiency Summit in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

That morning together, they were present to a huge opening that was occurring in the world in the backdrop of the global economic crisis. They believed that like no time before, sufficiency was an idea whose time had come.

They discussed how sufficiency was necessary for the transformation of the social justice crisis, the spiritual crisis and the environmental crisis that is threatening the well being of all life on earth. They saw the global economic crisis as a tremendous opportunity because it is forcing us to rethink our relationship to money and life and to confront not only the financial crisis, but all of the other crises because they all come from the same root –which is scarcity.

Out of that awareness, they decided that something was needed to further the burgeoning interest in sufficiency that has come forth over the last decade. They gained clarity that NOW was the time to create a social profit organization whose focus is to stand for global sufficiency. This organization, through its staff, its members and its partners, would be committed to fostering a viral expansion of a global conversation for sufficiency and generating powerful actions designed to bring forth a world transformed and restored by the promise of sufficiency.

At that moment, the decision was made – Marilyn and Cyndi would found the Global Sufficiency Network. Kay Sandberg and Lynne Twist representing The Soul of Money Institute and Miriam Hawley, representing the Global Sufficiency Summit and the Boston Sufficiency Team would serve as key collaborators and advisors. The Global Sufficiency Network was created knowing that enough people like YOU would be excited to partner with them, knowing that enough people like YOU are already inspired and on fire to have sufficiency come alive in the world and knowing that enough people like YOU would welcome the opportunity to join and contribute to a community who stands for sufficiency.
